They could..but who could afford to buy it?...that's why the prices are dropping now...the cost of energy killed the world economy imo.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

Moving on.
At this moment in time wholesale gas is $1.851/gallon. Oil is $79/barrel. Gas most definitely should be under $3/gallon (and probably more like $2.55 with the 4% retail markup and taxes)
You'll shoot your eye out.

I honestly don't think gas will ever go below $3 a gallon again
"Why so serious?"

Right now stations are claiming that they can't lower the price to actual cost until they empty their tank and buy that gas that's wholesaling at $1.85/gallon.
Of course they dont use that same reasoning when it's time to raise prices because oil/wholesale increases.

if they are privately owned that happens alot because of what the have to actually pay for the product but when prices are going higher they raise their prices to hedge themselves because they are going to need to have more cash on hand when it comes time to refill since they are paying more the next time around

I know how it works - I dont have to like it though.

no but from a business perspective you have to understand
if you were those gas station owners you would have to do that too if you wanted to stay in business

For as long as gas has been wholesaling at $2.30 or less per gallon, and oil well under $100/barrel, our gas prices should technically be under $3/gallon by now. They're only lowering it $0.05 at a time, hoping that it's going to rebound. As often as they have to refuel the tanks they've purchased the lower price gas already,a nd probably more than once.
Richmond gasoline has been under $3 for more than a week already.
In the midwest it's been that price for a few weeks already.
on mapquest gas price finder this is what I'm seeing:
As low as $2.87 retail in Richmond VA
$2.98 in Abingdon VA
$2.88 in Cincinatti OH
$2.90 in NYC
$2.43 in Oklahoma City
$2.73 in Houston
But yet in Wise County we wait... and pay more.
You'll shoot your eye out.
